Happy Friday! Now here's to the 90's I know and love. Take a look at one of my favorite videos from LL Cool J. I may have been wrong about the lack of 90's fashion influence on the runways today (view my past thoughts here). I sure do see a lot of leggings and bra tops on this video (recently the bra top has been seen trying to make a re-entry on the Spring 2010 runways). As I've stated in the past, as long as we stay away from the one-strap denim overalls I'm cool.

Good Jeans

Gap Denim Utility Jacket $69.50. Wear this with everything (love it by itself too): dresses, khakis, shorts, skirts. I did say everything, right?

Speaking of genes, this poor model was completely overlooked by the booty fairy. Trust me, this would be a very sexy dress if worn by practically anyone else.
Rag & Bone "Eva" Denim Dress $365.

Old Faithful. I always aim to have a good fitting jean in a dark denim at my disposal. WARNING: This will involve trying on many different brands and cuts to get the perfect fit. This straight leg version is a more classic cut and a little less forgiving than the skin tight Skinny jean.
Citizens Of Humanity "Ava" Straight Leg Jean $149.

Meet Me Half Way: These boots really compromise

Alexander McQueen Leather Peep Toe Boots $1150. And if your toe can't handle the cold, just throw on a pair of tights.

In The Trenches

Burberry Packable Trench Coat $595.
The king (or in this case queen) of the Classic Trench.

A similar but more affordable option.
Mid-length trench coat, Gap $88.

If I had my pick and an extra $1100 laying around...
Zucca Tricotine Trench coat $1176.
Modern neckline that's cool and versatile.

Under The Weather

Marimekko Silkkikuikka Orange/Fuchsia Umbrella $32.00. A little more than I'd like to pay for an umbrella but nothing beats good quality when it's raining and windy and you've got a hairstyle to protect.

Party Like It's 1994
Lately fashion seems like it's all about the past. For the last couple of years we've been in the middle of an 80's revival: from shoulder pads to leather pants. And everyone always loves a throwback to the funky 70's or 60's mod (think A-line mini dresses and knee high boots). But, are we forgetting about the 90's? With the exception of the resurrected grungy, plaid flannel shirt I just haven't seen much of a 90's vibe going around. It's probably for the best. I'm in no hurry to see my man (or anyone else's) running around in denim overalls with one of the straps hanging down. And I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to rayon at this point. One second thought maybe the 90's wasn't the best decade for fashion, but they sure had some great music. Enjoy your weekend!
Hi-Five The Kissing Game (I Like The Way)-1990
Love that song. Not so in love with the group's wardrobe in this video. But, that's the 90's!
Aaliyah One In A Million-1997
Another one of my favorites. To this day I still love this beat and Aaliyah's sexy tomboy chic look. RIP BabyGirl.

Are We There Yet?

Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton showed some great outerwear options this time around. I love the girly, retro feel of the short swing cape and coat.
I'm usually a big fan of Tibi's colorful frocks for Spring and Summer. Although I still love the harem pant and this jacket, it does ultimately look like a repeat from last Fall. I do however like the idea of bringing bright color into Fall and the contrast between the long dress and casual cropped jacket.
I just can't get enough of Alexander Wang. The secret is in the details. He takes the most basic items and just tweaks it a bit. A basic sweater coat or white button down may not be that exciting. But, add an asymmetrical hem and a corset-minimalism at its best!

Taking Care Of Business

Try a men's wear inspired vest instead of a blazer for a fresh look. Double Breasted Tweed Vest $39.50, Marissa Fit Tweed Pant $29.99, Victoria's Secret.
Say so long to the stuffy suit. Pull together a professional look with a sweater dress. So versatile you can wear it alone, belt it and add a long cardigan or a cropped jacket.

Infinity and Beyond
Happy Friday Ladies! The start of the weekend is finally here. Don't you wish the weekends would just go on and on forever? Kind of like this cool accessory I've been eyeballing called the Infinity Scarf. Transform your outfits in a snap by slipping on this circular accessory that's already a perfectly sculpted neck scarf.

Nephali by TDM Design "Cloe" Large Loop Scarf $94.50. Try experimenting with different colors and textures for the most impact. This accessory can create a downtown vibe when paired with a tee or tank or very polished look when adding a black infinity scarf on top of a black blazer or dress.

Ski Lodge Chic

The North Face "5 Boroughs" Insulated Jacket $99
This jacket is amazingly thin but extremely warm. Note: Although she may look cute in the bikini bottoms, by no means is this an endorsement to forgo wearing pants.

These are Uggs on steroids with real goat hair. More fur, more fun.
Pajar Boots Davos Black $350
Tory Burch Rabbit Fur Trim Duck Boot $295
I know these are a little Lumber Jackish, but the fur is sooo decadent. I think these would be warm, comfortable and really cute with skinny jeans and
an oversized button down.

New Year, New You?

and step in to a pair of Booty Pop Panties.
Apparently they're all the rage in Hollywood (seriously). When I first found out about these I assumed it was a joke. But, to my surprise and horror-all true (WHY?). Honestly, they're not a new concept. Does anyone else remember those ads for the padded panties in the back of the Essence and Ebony magazines? So, for you ladies who can't stomach another squat in the gym; It's a new year, what are you waiting for? Make that booty "Pop" (somebody shoot me, please)!
